Work At Home And Allowing Others To Do Jobs In Your Home – Benefits and Drawbacks
It is surprising how having the delivery of a postal item to your home can wreak havoc with your daily plans when you work at home. I’m talking here about the sort of delivery that needs to be signed for, so you need to be in when the delivery happens. Equally as bad can be arrangements with tradesmen who are to undertake work at your home. Luckily for me I work from home so things can be somewhat easier. I don’t need to arrange time off work or rely on a neighbour. In addition, because the majority of my work from home involves online jobs I can quite easily stop what I am up to when the doorbell rings.
Work at Home Distractions
Last week however I encountered a problem. I had booked a painter and decorator to spend a few days painting my lounge. These arrangements can be ideal when you work from home but these particular arrangements backfired on me because of the distraction caused. It is easy to think that your work from home will go ahead serenely whilst a tradesman does his work, but it wasn’t to be this time. Although the most hard working and easy going of people, the tradesman turned out to be continuously noisy. So much so that his presence was a constant distraction from my work from home jobs. At first his efforts were accompanied by loud transistor radio sport commentary, which I tolerated for a while but then had to ban. This only then caused whistling, singing and a virtual constant need for a conversation. Eventually I consented to the radio going back on.
All in all my efficiency must have suffered as a result. I certainly seemed to spend noticeably longer in my office than I normally do. The moral of the story would appear to be check out your tradesman first. Hire somebody who has undertaken work for somebody you know, and get a noise report before you engage!
