Medical Transcriptionist – A Positive Turning Point in my Life
There are a couple of reasons why I chose to be a medical transcriptionist (MT). Of course, there is the convenience of working at home and being close to my family and to earn a decent income, the main reason I chose to be an MT goes beyond this. I hold a Masters Degree with adequate teaching experience. After been trained as a university professor I started working in the education sector. I had been working till the birth of my son. My wanting to be at home with my son took over my desire to work. The kind of satisfaction one gets by working in the service sector is known to me. Even though I am a stay-at-home mom, the desire to work is still there. When I came to know that we can take online medical transcription courses, I was delighted. As the medical field is also a part of service industry, I’m willing to be trained in it, and be at home at the same time. I’m a person who cannot work without adequate work satisfaction. Working in the medical field, in itself, is a humble service to humanity. It is a noble profession.
It goes beyond words the kind of work contentment and sense of achievement one gets by serving others. Though as a Medical Transcriptionist, I would not be in direct contact with the patients, but it would give me great pleasure to serve them through physicians and other healthcare professionals. I believe this in itself would be a rewarding job. By working from home I would be able to spend more time with my son. This way I would always be there to guide him. At he is 10 years old now; there is an increasing dependability on peers. With the increase in peer pressure, he would require more parental guidance now than ever before. By working from home, I could always be there for him. I would also be there to help him with his home assignments. At the same time I can earn a decent income which would help raise our standard of living. At times it becomes difficult to depend only on my husband’s income and we have to let go many of our materialistic desires. But when I start to earn, things would definitely improve for me and my family.
All this would be applicable with my job satisfaction as one of the main factors as mentioned above. I have visited many web-sites to get information regarding training of an MT. But I have not been satisfied with the kind of information provided. I know, to succeed in this profession a lot of determination and self discipline is required as firstly this profession calls for it and secondly home-based jobs become monotonous over a period of time. But I assure I’m highly motivated for this job because of the advantages mentioned above. I chose to get trained by Future MT, as it provides quality education along with a self-paced home study course. What I also like about this course that it comes with its two guarantees especially its employment service guarantee, which is really relieving as I don’t have to start looking for jobs after I complete the course. Above all, Future MT is BBB Accredited. It provides online classes and live mentoring from trained professional mentors. Once I become a Certified Medical Transcriptionist I hope to find and settle down in a rewarding MT employment. Maybe I’ll start my own MT business in the future. Who knows! But the will to succeed in my career is unconditionally present in me.

A New Start with Medical Transcription
My story actually is very similar to many who desire a career in medical transcription. I wish to do medical transcription at home and have more time with my children. I home schooled my first son for the first 3 grades and when my second son came along, I didn’t have the financial ability to do home schooling with him and feel he is missing out on so much with me.
A Medical Transcription Career for Those with Disabilities & Health Issues
I also want a job from home because of developing fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I worked medical record jobs with a local hospital for more than 4 years and absolutely loved my job. In fact, I was the one my co-workers came to for a positive conversation. I unfortunately had to try some short-term disability starting in February and because of my health have had to resign my position. Now I’m losing my health insurance.
I’ve been denied state aid because I’m “capable of working a sedentary job” – which is true. But I cannot do it outside my home anymore. I’ve had so many negative things happen since becoming sick and watching my once healthy vibrant body change so much so, that I don’t even recognize it anymore. Yet, I refuse to give up.
Medical Transcription for People Who Enjoy the Medical Field
I want to work and I want to a job in medical transcription! I want to give back to the medical field as they’ve given to me. I’ve received so much help from amazing doctors and some temporary relief from medications and want to keep working in the medical field as a medical transcriptionist. I’ve always found this field fascinating as well. Watching TV shows on Discovery Health such as Dr G (my favorite) and PBS has always been my #1 shows.
While working I was able to take a Coding course as well as a Medical Terminology course. I did try a medical transcription course once before, but because of no real direction my job at a hospital didn’t last long. It’s wonderful to watch the advances that are being made to help sufferers of illness!
Medical Transcription is a Great Home Based Business for Severe Weather Locations
Another reason for working from home is no more driving in the winter. I hated having to get up and drive in dangerous conditions because I was told my job is never closed! Always expected to be there no matter the weather made me feel I HAD to go to work and many times I risked my life and the lives of others to be at my job. I would much rather be in the comfort of my home and not have to think about that anymore. NY weather stinks! Working continuously while the snow flies I would love!!!!

Becoming a Medical Transcriptionist
I have wanted to do something within the medical field for many years and becoming a medical transcriptionist seems perfect for me. My oldest was born at 24 weeks gestation. At that time, the doctors would speak so many different medical terms. I was so confused by what they were saying. I became very interested in learning what all of these medical terms meant. I just wanted to know what they were saying. So, I decided to start asking what they meant, and started to look some of them up so I would know exactly what they were saying. I had found something that was really interesting, medical terms.
Becoming a Medical Transcriptionist Can Fulfill Your Dreams
I had never had the time to do any type of schooling. Now I want to further myself. I have raised three children and I believe it is time for me to fulfill my dreams. I want to be a success, not just for myself but, also for my children. I have damaged my back over the years of my employment. I suffer from degenerative disc disease, arthritis, and bulging discs. Now I am on Social Security Disability. This definitely does not pay all my bills. To become a medical transcriptionist would allow me to work from the comfort of my home. Therefore, I would not be at a normal job hurting my back even more.
This career would also not interfere with any doctors appointments that I may have. This career would allow me to work from home even on the days I can barely move. It gives me the flexibility and the comfort that I need.
Medical Transcriptionist Course
The one thing that really influenced me with the course is the live mentoring. I feel a lot more at ease knowing I would be talking to an actual person when I have questions, concerns or problems. I like that this course offers flexibility. For so many of us time is such a big issue these days. I also like that this course is self-paced. This gives us the option to go as fast as we want.
I think it will be interesting to learn with real-life environment noises. So, if we were to choose to work outside of our home, we would be able to have the ability to work in such an environment. It is great to know that Future MT will assist you in finding medical transcription jobs. I like that the course can be anywhere from 3-6 months long. It is nice to know that you don’t have to spend a whole lot of years in school.
I like that you would supply us with any text books or equipment needed for us to learn. My goals in becoming a medical transcriptionist are not limited. I will have the advantage of working at home. But, if I choose to work outside of the home, that would be great to.
Working as a Medical Transcriptionist Can Lead to Other Jobs
I never thought about owning my own MT business. But, that could be something to really sit down and think about. That would be a long term goal to achieve. I never really thought what specialty I would enjoy the most. There are so many different home typist jobs out there. If I sit here and think what excites me the most out of all the medical fields that exist, I think I would enjoy working for a doctor or hospital that specializes in premature babies. I would just be excited to work with any doctor, hospital, clinic, etc. I just want to fulfill my own dreams. I want to learn, achieve and succeed as a medical transcriptionist.

Medical Transcription – Striving to Become a Productive WAHM
As all of us strive for the possibility of bettering ourselves, its important to find a balance and I believe my balance will be found in medical transcription. The balance between work and motherhood. Being a mother has always taken precedence over being gone long hours away from my family. As a mother of two teenage daughters, I find myself searching for my place in the workforce. My job as a full-time mom has decreased to more of a part-time job now. I feel as though medical transcription at home will give me the freedom to be the mom I am, while working to achieve my goals as a vital key of motivation to my daughters, and still be within arms reach of the two most important things in my life.
In a world that seems to be over taken by imports from China and Hong Kong, we have allowed our society to lean on other countries to do things for us. We’ve lost sight of the old fashioned idea of hard work and determination. If things get easy, we all tend to get lazy. I feel that the Medical Industry in the United States is not affected by the politics of this unfortunate state of disarray our Country sees.
Medical Transcription for a Sense of Satisfaction
There are hard working, motivated, highly educated individuals that work long and hard to achieve their status as Doctors and Nurses. Nothing can compare to working hard to obtain the greatest satisfaction, we all want. The feeling of knowing we have done the best of our ability and making a difference in not only our lives, but the lives of others.
Medical Transcription as a First Step
I am looking to better myself as a medical transcriptionist, to do a number of things. To allow myself a better gratification of the Medical field. I can learn the trade, to begin other aspects of my life. Which can lead to many other avenues. Learn Medical Transcription
I am 42 years old, I am not comfortable going to College. As I get enough of the younger generation with my teenaged daughters! When i did attend College, it seemed to be a joke. Kids, with their mom and dad’s money, not a lot attainable in terms of knowledge. In general it appears as if the professor just wanted to get his check, so he can hurry up and retire. I look for more one-on-one education. Where people count as human beings. Its nice to know a place you are wanted, and excelled to a point of satisfaction of learning and being taught by people who take pride in their jobs. I look forward to learning medical transcription. I feel it will be challenging, as well as rewarding. It is time now for me to focus on my life, as my daughters are soon going off to College.

Medical Transcription – Great Home Business Or Hyped Opportunity?
by Scott Knutson
With globalization in full swing and job security a thing of the past, with ever increasing gas prices and the time spent commuting simply time lost, more and more people are looking for alternative ways to pay the bills and escape the rat race. One alternative that many are looking at is Medical Transcription.
Sounds like a viable option but is it possible make living from home with medical transcription? Sure, it’s possible but there’s more to it than the average sales letter espousing the opportunity with tell you.
This brief article will outline a few of the pros and cons of the opportunity and hopefully bring to light a few facts that will allow you to better assess if medical transcription from home is for you.
On the positive side, many people are earning a nice living performing medical transcription from the comfort of their own homes. Incomes of $50,000 to $75,000 are realistic and some medical transcriptionists make even more but on the other hand, there’s more to it than you might think. In addition, because more and more transcription is being outsourced, once you establish yourself as a reliable and competent contractor, you should have more work than you can handle.
Here are few things to consider as you ponder a new career in medical transcription at home.
Medical Terminology
It’s essential to have a thorough understanding of medical terminology and the proper spelling of these terms. The reason is simple, accuracy is essential in any transcription and because time is money in this profession and because you are paid by the amount of work you can produce, if you’re struggling with every other word you won’t get much done. Of course, you would clearly have medical spellchecking software on your computer but if you don’t understand the terms as you listen to the dictated messages you won’t be as productive as you need to be.
Of course, you don’t need to be familiar with all medical terminology because most transcriptionists specialize in specific areas such as ophthalmology.
Listening Skills
Most of the time, you will be transcribing from some type of audio tape and these tapes are not always the best quality and doctors are not thinking of you when they are dictating. They are not thinking of proper sentence structure and speaking in a clear manner and so you will be dealing with the problem of trying to figure out what is being said. They just talk away and it’s up to you to figure out what they said.
Just another reason why it’s so important to have a thorough understanding of medical terminology and their associated conditions so that you can properly interpret and extrapolate what the doctor is trying to say.
Vacation
As you get established you’ll have plenty of work but as in any business you need to have coverage at all times. So what happens when you want to go on vacation? Of course, you’ll need someone to take over your work and because many medial transcriptionists specialize in certain fields your backup may not be familiar with your specialty and thus the chances of errors will increase. On the flip side, you may also be asked to backup another medical transcriptionist when they go on vacation and have to deal with their field of expertise and a whole slew of new terms.
Medical transcription isn’t for everyone but if you’ve got above average typing skills and you enjoy the freedom of doing your own thing and working when you want, it’s a realistic way to earn a good to great living from the comfort of your home.
